Highlights at Jigami Organic Hair Salon London

After the Herbatint experiment which can only be called a debacle I decided to treat myself to a partial head of highlights at the Jigami salon for my 30th birthday.  When I walked in the door of the Soho Salon there was the noticeable absence of that headache-inducing chemical smell (you know what I’m talking about, it’s the smell of a hair salon!)   Jigami uses 3 types of coloring products all completely odorless.  H20 is a water based colour that doesn’t have ammonia, peroxide or resorcinol.   The Organic and Mineral color is soya-based, contains no ammonia and some shades are PPD free.  The seaweed lightener (which is what I was getting) works as well as traditional bleach but gets closer to the roots since it is less likely to swell thereby achieving longer lasting results.  In the salon they use product ranges from: O&M, Nioxin, Modern Organic Products, and Giovanni Organic Hair Care.

Clients go to Jigami for a couple of reasons.  They don’t want to put toxic chemicals in their hair and they like the difference between mineral haircolor and synthetic haircolor.  The results of my highlights were good, the color was similar to the highlights I have gotten at conventional salons.  Improved was the Herbatint ring of orange around the crown of my head which is now slightly more faded since the new haircolor blended through the offending section.  After washing my hair a few times after the Jigami visit I noticed fewer hair breakages which I normally have after a recent highlight.

Luckily for me who was born dark dirty blonde/light mousy ashe brown who gets highlights on a regular basis, highlights are not as bad for your health as the nasty chemicals that cover greys and add hair color onto the hair shaft such as p-phenylenediamine (PPD).  (This is why the paps are always on the lookout for brunette celebrities who are letting their roots show since this could be a sign of pregnancy, whereas they won’t break any news on the blondies who are allowed to keep highlighting their hair through pregnancy).  I wouldn’t really recommend knowingly putting toxic stuff in/on your body during pregnancy which includes highlights, but in any case definitely avoid the PPD, and buying a new car!

Thanks for that information. I agree, no point risking any harm to an unborn baby, just to have 'the right hair colour'. Often hair can naturally look better in pregnancy anyway.

Did the color last as long as usual? What a great alternative.

that was a very nice and informative post. It would really be of help for those who wants to have a new look and hair style. I assume that all the chemicals being used there is really safe.and will not do any harm to the clients. You've done a great job sharing this information to us.

Congratulations on your new 'do! It isn't often that I encounter people who will specifically seek out organic hair salons, so I'm glad to hear that your experience has been very satisfactory. Hopefully, more people will follow your lead.

Those are some real good points that I never even thought about. Everything you said makes sence about staying away from the chemicals.

It is nice to see that more people are going for a more natural coloring solution. Applying too many chemicals to your hair will result in thinning hair later in life. Chemicals end up damaging your hair, and ends up causing dull thin hair. Most women choose to dye their hair because they are not happy with their natural color. The only problem is that women have to continue dying their hair on a regular basis to avoid the roots from showing. Hopefully more salons across the nation will start using this process of hair coloring, and get rid of the harsh chemical dye.

It's nice to know that there are organic salons already putting up in there. Its really good to know that pregnant women do now have a choice to dye their hairs without risking their baby's life.

30th birthday, no kidding, you don't look a day over 20. Like you I am not lovin' the salon scent and if Jigami uses 3 types of coloring products that are all completely odorless, I'm in.
