Acorelle 100% Natural Oriental Wax Product Review

courtesy of Echemist

For a while now (almost a year) I’ve been working on my own natural hair remover recipe but I haven’t quite nailed it yet.  It’s extremely infuriating as the ingredient list is so short and simple: water, sugar, lemon juice and a few drops of essential oil if you’re feeling like it.  The reason why it’s so difficult to make a natural hair remover at home is because to get the perfect consistency (sticky enough and soft enough that it spreads well after the mixture cools down) it’s a matter of the perfect temperature and the perfect timing.  So when I don’t have the luxury of the time to experiment and my body hair is getting out of control then desperate times call for desperate measures.  I go out and buy something.

Enter stage left Acorelle 100% Natural Oriental Wax for face and body.  I’m not sure what makes it “oriental” per say.  Ingredients are simply sugar, water, and lemon juice.  The sugar and lemon juice are organic and the product carries the ECOCERT label.  I couldn’t find information on the Acorelle website specifically about the “oriental” wax that I used so I suspect it might have been replaced by a newer product “royal wax” which uses natural pine resin, organic beeswax, and white lily extract.  I’ll be sure to try that next, although hopefully I’ll have mastered my own recipe before then!

Natural Beauty Treatments - Waterloo Body Station

courtesy of Waterloo Body Station

I was really pleased to stumble upon the Waterloo Body Station in London. The Body Station is a natural spa and shop with a huge variety of treatments and products. From complementary therapies such as osteopathy, acupuncture, and something called “cupping therapy” (I have no idea!) to massage and advanced body work such as deep tissue massage, Reiki, and aromatherapy (yippee!). I had something a bit more superficial in mind – natural beauty therapies. I was on a mission to remove body hair and make my feet pretty for my upcoming Caribbean holiday.

First we got the tricky stuff over with: bikini, leg, and underarm sugar waxing using Moom (which isn't a wax but a natural hair remover made from sugar, lemon juice, water, and lavender essential oil). I've been trying to perfect my own recipe for a while now, which if I ever do you'll be the first to hear of it! But you can read review about Moom here.

My lovely therapist Harminder navigated me through some unchartered waters – my first Brazilian. Although I'm more than 10 years behind this trend, I will just say that I'm not sure why we're doing this ladies? Seriously, why?

Now on to more pleasant topics – my Power Butter Pedicure. 60 minutes of pure heaven!

Moom 100% Organic Natural Hair Remover Product Review

I’m very excited about 100% organic Moom Natural Hair Remover.  It behaves and works exactly like a wax except it’s gentler on the skin.  The only ingredients are chamomile, sugar, lemon juice, water, and tea tree oil.  The chamomile and tea tree are anti-inflammatory and the lemon juice acts as an antiseptic.  The sugar binds everything together and acts as a natural preservative.

Moom is gentle on the skin because its ingredients are all natural but also because you only heat the product warm enough to get the consistency of honey.  The instructions say only to heat Moom for 10 seconds and the product performs better that way.  If you overheat Moom, it loses its stickiness and is less effective in removing hair.

The starter pack costs £15 and includes 6oz of hair remover, 4 applicator sticks, hair removal strips.  I’ve already used half of the jar to remove 1 set of lower legs, 2 sets of underarms.  This makes it almost twice as expensive as a regular wax you buy at the pharmacy.  I do quite like it though so I’ll probably keep using it and buy a refill jar when I’m done (better value).  Overall, Natural Beautee gives Moom one and a half thumbs up.
